The Expected End
Monday, April 16, Easter Monday, Sunny and breezy, with the wind out of the south that is cold and biting
The weekend went very well for Susan and her family at Holly and Jason’s wedding. I could not make the afternoon ceremonies but was invited to the reception in the evening. It was a small gathering of family where anything could have happened but the event went through without any problems. Susan was able to coordinate and delegate all the activities so everything proceeded smoothly. Jason's family was there participating even though his mother had originally felt left out because she and her son had not spoken for a long time.
Work continues with some traffic over the weekend, mostly lookers from out of town. I had a few interested people making their way emotionally toward a home purchase. Two couples had been in the home before. Three couples are looking at homes in this area. One couple is very interested in the home that we are building as our showhome. I would expect them to have a look at it, call me back to get them in touch with John for further negotiations.
Warren is in town so we are playing squash and getting back in the swing of things. I managed to break the strings of my better racquet in the last game. The strings are able to last only twenty hours of play before they should be redone, Warren informed me.
I have not heard from Dana, Cory or Gillian but expect them to be all in good health and humor.
Dana will have to make some decisions soon if he is not getting steady work in the movie industry. His income should allow him to continue searching for work for another month or so before he has to change his work expectations temporarily. The tentative strike by the writers slated for May 1 will be soon upon them. This event will force Dana to make some decisions..
I am of good mind and humor and continue to come to terms with Susan's inability to get closer to me. The distance and lack of intimacy has become common place and is more of the norm than the exception. With her up coming surgery, I see this continuing for an indefinite period of time.
I am to collect my pay check for my first home sale this week. With the deposit, my credit cards, sears and bank balance should all be happy again.
Cory's truck will be on the market next week at a sale price. The sale will take care of the money he owes me.
Shirley embraces her 50th birthday this next month with a grand party at her place. I will have to arrive with an appropriate gift to highlight our relationship of almost twenty years.
Cory has his birthday next month also. I will arrange to have Dana go with him and purchase a wristwatch of his choosing in the $100.00 range. A move to United States would probably be the best birthday gift that he would wish for.
The potential for sales and income in this sales position is very great, with the only concern being the need to save a certain amount to meet the income tax requirements that will appear next year. I will address this issue when the time appears.
Cheryl is confronting an unusual situation with her current boyfriend and their activities in the romance department. I am sure it is only temporary and they will solve the problem in their own fashion. She could always return to the active young fellow that had so enthralled her in the past few months.
The traffic has been quite continuous for an Easter Monday. Chris, Gary and families plus some grandparents with kids came by to look at the showhome. The energy level in the house went up considerably with the number of children.
John phoned to tell me that Mike and Monica are coming in to do up a wish list on Wednesday evening. This home search is moving along quite nicely. We will give them the personal touch and great service to ensure that they will have us build their new home.
Wednesday, April 18 Sunny with cloudy periods and very strong winds that have continued since MondayBack at the show home today after dropping off the samples for colors for the Jim R home so he could chose the stucco, fascia , soffit and trim colors. This process continues to be a learning experience of what happens when a home is built.
I picked up my restrung racquet from the Sweet Spot. The racquet looks quite impressive; perhaps it will give me the mental edge to win the games that we play. It will be all right if I don't though.
Susan has come through the wedding quite nicely, a few days at work with a few nights of sleep and she is back on track. Holly and Mathew left a gift of a cold for her but she appreciates the attention.
I picked up the check for the Jim R home, deposited it and paid some bills that were outstanding. Now when the income tax rebate check arrives I will be able to apply it to more bills. This check will give me a cushion if I do not make a sale for a while. This is highly unlikely with the traffic and interest that there has been in this showhome.
I have finished a roll of photos including the show home in Sherwood Park along with Cory's truck. I will be able to advertise it in the Journal next week. I will accept any offer that is in the $2000 range to move the vehicle and reduce Cory's debt load. He will feel quite relieved to get rid of a debt that is dragging him down. Without it, he will be able to start saving money.
I am quite amazed at the downward plunge of the smart money magazine's tips on low priced stocks from last November. All but one stock has plunged to about 20% of what it was. The stock market is a gamble at best. Staples has maintained the same level but achieved no earning power over the past six months, not really a good investment. Warren says there are some very good stocks to purchase that will go up in the future and make some good returns in the longer term but has not given me any names so he will not feel responsible if I lose money. I will have to sit down and have him explain in greater detail what he sees in the future.
His birthday is on Thursday. He is spending the afternoon with Sally, a picnic in the park and reflection on the year.
The traffic has been slow but steady. One woman, Debbie came back twice to look over the house. I toured the Artisan with her so she would have an idea how we finished our homes. She is looking for a larger bungalow and showed concern that the lots were moving quickly. She was getting quite excited about the houses and lots. Some possibility here I think.
Talked to Susan in the evening, her cold is getting into her head and chest.
Cheryl called, the work on her house is moving along quite nicely. She is thinking about escaping to the south for two weeks.
Monday, April 23 cloudy but warm, spring has arrived
The weekend went quickly, with good traffic at the showhome.
The couple from Hanna I talked to previously, called Monday to cancel any more activity in their desired new home in Lewis Estates. The Mike and Monica activity continues with their visit to the Artisan show home on Saturday. They said they would contact John early this week. Julie from Stony Plain brought her husband in to see the bungalow and will possibly call to get more information about building a bungalow outside of Stony Plain.
Susan is getting over her head cold, sore shoulder and aches and pains. She worked on Saturday to catch up. She came by Saturday night to continue her confused discussion about possibly being friends. I am not to keen about the relationship changing from the level of intimacy that we have now, to just a friendship. I have no desire to be a guide to her as she falls in love with someone else. We will have to talk more deeply about this situation. I do not know if this is just a spring ritual, as it was last year or if she is really serious about this new direction in life.
Warren’s work schedule is filling up but is still finding time to play squash on a regular basis. He is off to Yellowknife till Friday, then after the weekend he is going to B.C. Everett has sold his construction home and now will get on to building another dwelling that he has been planning for a while.
Dana called last night. He was in good spirits; having worked a few days in the last two weeks, received his refund from Tax Canada and is putting his life into perspective. He spent some time with Cory, shooting pool on the weekend. The writers' strike is still on schedule for May 1 and no companies are starting shows or productions which mean no work till at least the middle of May. Cory continues to work long hours at his graphics job to create an income that is stable and dependable. He suggested that he may fly down to Atlanta to help set up the computers with Greg.
Cory’s paint ball games are exciting and demanding enough so he is happy with the challenge and excitement they bring him.
I went flying Sunday morning, the first time in three months. The weather was severe clear and the flight was incredible so I flew over Derek and Viola's new home. There was a car in the driveway but no one came out as I flew over several times. The flying club sold the new 172. What a short sighted idea. I did not have a chance to get my picture taken with the plane, too bad. Now that I have a little cash flow I should start to fly every two weeks or so.
I bumped into my friend Steve, at a coffee shop before coming to work today. He had just finished his Real Estate course, had written his exam today but felt that he did not do very well. He seemed to be a lot more settled than when he was working for his previous company.
Tuesday, April 23 - sunny, warm day with strong winds moving the clouds in during the afternoon +14
Went out to find some sandals, did not find any but bought some marigolds for the balcony to brighten up the view.
Received some phone calls from interested buyers for the ad I placed for Cory's truck. Terry who viewed the unit yesterday afternoon, came by with his son; test drove the truck and said he would get back to me later in the afternoon to arrange payment.
I cleaned up the apartment, getting rid of some excess paper, books and unused stuff that has been cluttering the closets for a long time.
Susan still has not called. I would expect she is keeping busy and ignoring the necessity to make some sort of decision in her life. It is not a great problem for me at the moment. I am content to let her move in her indecisive circles until she can clear her mind. I would like to make a life with her but I am not prepared to hold her hand and give her guidance in any extra romantic endeavors. I will have to make this known to her, not only to clear my own mind but hers also. I am not too sure why she is so unsettled at the moment other than the concern over her upcoming surgery, cessation of smoking and the fact that we have been going together for about three years. I would suspect that she sees the need to move on or settle down.
Wed. April 25. Cloudy in the morning with sunny breaks in the afternoon with wind
Well, Susan made the decision that she has to find herself and become centered again.
She feels that she will miss out on something of great importance if she continues in this comfortable relationship. Not much success in arguing with her on how good she has it at the moment. I am concerned that the medication she is on, combined with the other stresses in her life has her very confused. But, she is in charge and has to go the direction that she sees fit. I feel very unhappy about the change but can do nothing about it except be sure I take care of myself and my feelings. Her idea of remaining friends is really a difficult concept to grasp at the moment. I will have to remove myself from the routine that we have had so she can change her interaction with me. She wishes things to be different and she does not realize how different they will be.
I doubt very much that we will get back together on any sort of level.
I have decided that being comfortable with myself, enjoying myself and the things I do will fill the time that I have. I am confident there will be women that appear at the appropriate intervals to fill any needs that we both have. I will remain confident this is another segment in my life as I move through the elements. It is sad because I will miss her companionship, her good moods and thoughts. She is going to have to take some big steps to regain any sort of solid footing to be able to come to some decision on who she is and wants she wants in her life. I am unsure of why these events are happening to her at the moment, perhaps it is just things that occur and we have to be flexible enough to learn from them. I shall miss her. I cannot seem to get this relationship bit correct, perhaps I am to nice and make it to easy for the women to move into another part of their lives and search out new worlds with the courage and knowledge that they have gained from me. Anyway, I will continue to think and feel.
I sold the truck last night to a nice young fellow. The cheque should clear, the truck should continue to operate and I will be able to put Cory's debt to sleep. It will make him more comfortable and allow him some flexibility in his financial decisions.
Mother was in a caustic mood during lunch today but changed as I took her on a trip to Spruce Grove to see the homes in that area, with a stop to show her where I worked.
She was going to spend some nickels at the Casino before she went home.
John meet with a potential client in the morning to price out a home to be built in Stony Plain, the client is getting several other builders to quote on the same home, perhaps we do have an opportunity to compete because of our smiles and home quality.
I managed to purchase some casual brown dress slacks at Eddie B's that should do me for a while although I still need some dark blue slacks to complete my wardrobe. I will have to clean out more of my suits that I have not worn in years, no use keeping them for old times sake. If I need one, I have my black one and I can always purchase a new suit that is up to date.
This thing with Susan still erk me, I can only believe that if I give her enough room and distance there is a chance that we will get back together again. A possibility? I wonder how she will explain it to her sister, Louise and brother in law Pat.
The weekend went very well for Susan and her family at Holly and Jason’s wedding. I could not make the afternoon ceremonies but was invited to the reception in the evening. It was a small gathering of family where anything could have happened but the event went through without any problems. Day to day Grind
Tuesday, March 20 snowing and cold -9
Gillian came into town yesterday and is settling in for a short stay.
She visited with Mom till I got off work and then we went for supper. She is very diligent about her weight watchers diet plan. After she obtained her rental car for the week I showed her the location of the Weight Watchers office. She was to have lunch with a friend and then do some shopping.
I dropped by the Rock Solid office for paper material and supplies. I did some reading at Chapters, bought a coffee maker, coffee supplies and made it to the office by opening time. After setting everything up, I settled in for the day.
Warren is back in town and we are playing squash when we have time.
Gillian is in a good mood with none of her mood swings apparently affecting her.
I left a message for Dana; he sounded so down because he has not worked for such a long time. I will have to send him some information by fax through Cory.
Susan is going for a visit to her doctor about her medical concerns; she seems to have a little more discomfort than she expected.
Mom and Gillian seem to be happy to see each other. We all will probably go out to our home town on Friday to do some business and see Terry and Merci.
Wednesday, March 20 cloudy, cold and snowing -8
I spent the morning talking with Gillian and getting ready for lunch with Mom and Terry. The lunch was pleasant with no awkwardness by any one. Terry told us that Lesel and Kali both had jobs in San Francisco and were settling in. He also said that his oldest son and girlfriend had decided to end their relationship and were moving on with their lives.
Gillian added that she is still concerned with her son but is not as emotional about it as she usually is.
Thursday, March 22, sunny still -6
The sun is melting the snow on the ground as the day progresses. The wind has a brisk cold feel as it blows out of the north. The forecast is for a warming trend that will take us into spring and April.
Gillian and I spent the morning planning for Friday’s events.
I was able to do my income tax with my accountant, visit a friend, Viola, see their new house, drop in and see Fred and Sue, see my sister, Grace and her sons and oh yes have lunch with Terry and Merci in Veg. And then in the afternoon---.
Gillian expressed her concerns about her niece, Cheryl after Gillian returned from the evening at her house with Terry and Merci present. Gillian is frustrated when Terry does not keep his word.
Mother shares these feelings.
Canada's pairs won gold at the world skating championship in Vancouver this year, to the surprise of most people watching.
Simon, Gillian’s youngest son, was fired from his job on a film by saying he would not put up with the abuse he was receiving from his boss. He is in demand in the film industry so there will be no problem with him getting work as soon as he wishes. Gillian continues to shop for material for her future daughter-in-law, Kati's wedding dress in town; she bought a sample to take back to Toronto.
I am feeling a little down after Mike from Fort Sask. phoned to cancel the appointment they had with me due to his wife's illness (he said). He suggested that he will call to reschedule the meeting for next week. This event brings back the ability of a client to say no without really saying no. I have to remember that the sale is not made until the signature is on paper and the waiting period is over. I cannot allow myself to get too carried away with the potential of a paycheck before it actually happens.
Dorothy, a sales friend, confirmed last night that she was selling homes for another home building company down the block from me. When there is an opportunity I will drop by and visit with her.
Monday, March 23 cloudy, windy but warm. Rained this early morning and the air has a feel of spring dampness
The weekend was busy with a serious woman buyer from the University. I am confident that this viewing will result in a sale. A couple of other clients came by looking with definite ideas about what they wanted.
I spent my time with Gillian during my non working time this weekend.
Susan was comfortable doing her own things so I was not included in her life.
I am able to go along with her choices without feeling unsettled.
Friday, Gillian and I went out visit her friends. We made it back in the late evening with everyone quite exhausted. Gillian continues to want to be involved with everyone's lives and is quite confused when people are not interested in spending time together. I am taking the large view of the situation, that it gives me a chance to view the energy of someone that has an addiction to total involvement with everyone all the time.
I was to play squash with Warren today but he has a touch of the flu and has canceled some appointments because of his condition. I have put together some paper and promo sheets for the company and after a few changes by the owners they were approved.
Later in the day, I checked out our other Showhomes in the surrounding areas.
The traffic continues with two appointments created for this week; Thursday, for Val and Paul, and Saturday for Mike and Monica from Fort Sask. My feeling is talk to enough clients and something positive will happen. The people who come through the Show home are nice and they are interested in the product and our company.
Not to sure what is happening with Susan; perhaps it is just my activity and hectic schedule with Gillian but I feel that she is quite distant. This draining emotional activity with Gillian has created a need in me for some support. I am very aware and sensitive to the lack of contact with Susan. I still do not like the fact that she decided to paint the bathroom on Saturday night instead of spending it with me. I do not think I am in the wrong. Time will tell.
Monday, April 2, Sunny but breezy
The weekend went by quite quickly.
Traffic was constant but most of the people were just looking. It was nice to have the appointment with Jim and Linda to show the two homes that they were interested in and make a further appointment for Wed. It was very pleasant to see Susan again and try to re-connect with the feelings that we were sharing.
Mom went with her friends to see Kelsey's baby.
Warren and I played squash on Sunday evening, which was fun but pointed out how out of shape we are. It was good to play again.
I talked to Cheryl Sunday and Monday morning. Her stolen car was found and returned, but in her anxious state she ran into a tree and broke the front parking light. It is not a good spring for her with her men troubles and all her intrusive friends. She will get through it although she is quite jumpy and sensitive. Spent some time at the Rock Solid office talking to Chris and John about what is happening and getting ready to present some prices to Jim and Linda on Wednesday.
Susan seems happy and content again and is getting the painting done in her home this week.
The noisy neighbors from upstairs seemed to have moved over the weekend which was the end of the month or else they are being very quiet. All the refuse from the balcony has being removed and there does not seem to be any midnight callers coming by at the moment. I wonder if they have told all their acquaintances that they have moved on to another place.
I received an advance today, against the sales that are about to occur. Talked to the clients from Fort Sask., they are going to think more about what they saw over the weekend at Rock Solid and will get back to us soon. They are aware of the price increase. So I wait and let it all fall into place as it is meant to be.
Tuesday, April 3. Sunny but with a cool breeze from the south. The south part of the province has been getting snow from the USA for the last two days.
Hard on the ranchers during the calving season, but with cattle prices at an all time high, it is a small price to pay.
Susan called and was in a playful mood, so she convinced me to come over and help her with the family room molding that needs to be in place before they started painting today. The painters suggested that it would take two days to do what is necessary, filling of holes and all prep work. Her house will be wearing some new spring colors for this year.
During the day I dropped by to see Dorothy at her Standard Show home in the adjoining area. Their line of houses is less expensive than the one I am in but we are still competitive when we open the two Story Show home across the way.
I was wrong, the people above me are still in the apartment revealed by an excess of stereo noise and loud singing with their visitors around midnight.
Susan and I had a discussion about her state of mind and the change in her moods; whether it was because of the physical and medical problems or emotional concerns centered on her desire to quit smoking. Much discussion with no real conclusions achieved. She suggested that if she was “in love” with me, she would ask for me to move in with her; regardless of the fact that her son is living with her. Not that easy I stated, as I do have a say in the decision.
After my escapades with my former girlfriend, her ability to change my mind, along with my lack of resolve, I am going to be aware of who is making the final decision and why it is being made.
I have not heard from my sons Dana or Cory in a while.
I am not sure why Dana has not called in a while. He must be working enough to make way on his bills, rent and such.
No traffic flow today, Tuesday, maybe the weather or it’s just the time of week, everyone is busy doing something else today.
It is a still a good time to be alive.
Wednesday, April 11 Sunny, but with a cool wind from the north
The sale, my first, to Jim and Linda is complete with all the necessary signatures and paperwork completed and into the office. Now all we have to do is build the house. My payment should come soon. Now it is time to move on to another sale.
Traffic has been slow with only Mike and Monica, from out of town, visiting us but not making up their mind yet.
We moved into the new two storey showhome home on Saturday, April 7 and all the adjustments are being made. The house has some strong features and colors with the indoor courtyard accenting the home. We have had some positive feedback on the Show home. I expect it to sell soon.
Today I have had some strong interest on the previous Show home; with several people coming by to view both homes.
Susan’s daughter is getting married on Saturday in a small church ceremony. Susan is quite excited and pleased with the total procedure. She is doing all the small things that need to be done to make for a perfect wedding. She is receiving a certain amount of help from her friends and relatives.
Life has been very good to me, with only a little anxiety and tension with the signing of the documents and papers to conclude the home sale. The learning curve is quite steep but the company is very good at what they do.
I played squash with Warren several times this week; with our games improving and giving us the workouts that we are hoping for.
Cheryl has taken back control over some of her life, as far as friends interfering with the time and activities. She continues to train her friends and associates how she expects to be treated. A difficult task for her because this is not comfortable having control over her life. She has almost completed the work in the basement of her current home to be able to rent out the suites she has created. The theft and recovery of her car along with the small dent on the bumper has relegated itself to distant memory, with her stress level lowering itself to a reasonable level.
Susan and I discussed our expectations, needs and desires last weekend and have come up with an understanding, again, about what the next few months will bring. She continues to struggle with some feelings of unease. I am not sure what is going on. Even with all that I have learned in the last while I feel that I do not completely understand what is happening. I do know that I will protect myself because I am important.
Susan’s daughter’s wedding; Susan’s surgery and Luke finishing college are important events in her life. These events will hold her thoughts and attention first and foremost over the next months; I expect to be on the outer edge of her thoughts for a long period of time. I will have to be aware that I do not allow my “little boy” feelings control my actions. Now that I am aware of this process, I feel it should be easier.
Derek continues to struggle with his newly acquired clients’ anger and frustration because of the market decline. He is finding this aspect of his business life very stressful but seems more comfortable after we talked about the situation that he was in.
The senior owner of Rock Solid, the father of the men I work with, came by to talk for a while about the business and his sons. He said that although it is hard for him to get around, he feels better if he works a little each day. He said that he sleeps more soundly each night when he does this.
Susan is spending the week with her friend from Victoria, Bonnie, showing her the sites of the province.
The mens’ group continues even though I have not shown up for a few weeks, Warren, Peter and Hector show up occasionally. I will have to make an appearance soon because I miss the sessions. I am doubtful whether Jeff will make an appearance again; he is well into the new life he has chosen.
To get a better understanding and because I am snoopy, I would like to see Nora again to catch up on what is happening to her and Jeff.
Jim will not be back again I fear. He is into the religious activities of the church that will show him the way to happiness, he feels. It is not surprising that he is following the same direction that his father did when Len was a young child.
