A Year quietly ends

Sunday, Nov. 24 -Monday, Nov. 25- sunny -3, Grey Cup day is over

Both Montreal and Edmonton’s football teams played well on a field that was slippery because of the ice and snow. Edmonton never led in the game although they tried to come back but fell two points short. People in Edmonton were disappointed but there is always next year. I closed early and watched the Grey Cup game at home.
I successfully resisted the urge to call Susan
The following afternoon John dropped by the show home and we got caught up on what was happening in the house building industry. He is feeling better after his recuperation in the hospital and looks OK.
We talked about our families and how they grow up. He expressed the feeling that he should have gone on his own before settling down into the family business.
After he left I contacted the clients I am dealing with.
Warren is in Vancouver so I will be playing squash with Hector tonight.
Traffic is slow and will continue this way till January. I have enough deals in the process I will be alright.
Warren called Saturday before I got home and we went out to Brewster’s for supper and talked about the events in our lives over the past two weeks.
He talked about Jeff possibly coming to the group meeting.

Sunday, Dec. 1, Sunny with clouds, + 6
The week went by quickly with a couple of people interested in building homes, touring the showhome.
I did up a floor plan and price quote for Ryan. He came in and looked over the numbers and plans. He decided that $500k was a bit much and would like a quote for a home about 2000 sq. ft. and $300k. He is a nice fellow to deal with. Things should move along quickly until he goes on holiday in the middle of the month.
Played squash with Warren on Saturday and won in spite of the sore toe I had.
Lil called and left a message. I called back but have heard nothing so far.
The weather has been very warm, in the plus 10’s over the week but a cooling trend is forcast for this coming week. Toronto has been getting a great deal of snow because of the moist air brought in by the jet stream.
Derek is golfing in Vancouver this last week and will be getting back on Monday; tough life.
Dana called last week to ask for some money to settle some debts with his phone company and assorted debts before he moved into Stephanie’s place. This will be the last of the money that is available for him now that he is moving in with a woman. He will have to work for his rent and do other things for his spending money.
Now that I am on my own, my feelings about past relationships are changing as I knew they would. I am thinking of the type of woman that I might become involved with and really have no concept of what she might be like. Will it is always this way? One never knows who might turn the corner but I am smiling at everyone.
I am spending some time for the Christmas bureau sitting at the Westin during the month of December.
Even the fine weather has not increased the showhome traffic flow.
John and his brothers are doing well but had a hectic week catching up on small items before the Christmas break.
Carol is a little calmer than she was when I left but only because her sister, Gloria, is not around.
Everett displayed some anger when he was talking about himself last week. He is finally getting over blaming other people for his mistakes and problems.
Hector is happy doing the volunteer work and had an appointment to create a medical support job similar to the one his brother is doing out east.
Everything else is managing their lives nicely.
I had a very pleasant coffee with Shirley. She was very pleased that I had searched out her home town and brought back the local paper. We are to get together and watch Devin play hockey in the next several weeks when the weather cools enough for the ice to freeze on the outdoor skating rinks.

Wednesday, Dec. 4 Sunny, -9
The week has become easier as it has progressed.
Lucy and her husband came in on Monday to complete the deal with John because she was not comfortable dealing with me. They came in on Wednesday to sign off the conditions and give a cheque. The conditions come off on Dec. 15 so the deal should be complete by the beginning of the year.
I am going to the comedy evening at the Citadel on Saturday and have asked Warren if he is free to go.
Gillian called to say that her dog, Sidney, was taken from the front of “Jerry’s work out” place. Everyone that knows Sidney is quite upset about his disappearance. Sidney was found several hours later tied to a post in a nearby alley.
The weather has turned quite cold but comfortable for this time of the year.
Chris asked if I would be the Santa Claus for his group of people on Sunday; I said I would be pleased to do so. What is the worst thing that can happen? Is it the age, or the confidence that has created this situation? Maybe there will be a present for Santa, a darling single woman that wants to do right by Santa this year.

Saturday, Dec. 7 Sunny – 2 nice winter day.
Traffic is slow today with people trying to find a reason to build a home.
Irvine said there was no traffic on Thursday.
John dropped by for a short time after talking to some of our builders in the area.
We are starting to dig the basement for another of my client’s home this week.
I will be doing the Santa thing for Chris and his community league on Sunday. Again what is the worse thing that can happen?
I am going out to some theatre comedy tonight. I asked Warren to come along but he is unable although Sally tried to get her friend Donna to come along but was unable to arrange the meeting.
Our annual Christmas supper meeting with Dr. Joe was very successful on Thursday. Everyone had a great time even thou the place was noisy and it was a little hard to hear what was being said.
The following night I watched some Basketball on TV and then went out for coffee.
All in all I am feeling quite alright with the situation. Sometimes I think I am missing out when I do not have a woman around me but this is just my little boy commenting on my situation.

Sunday, Dec. 8, Monday, Dec. 9- sunny + 6 weather is unseasonably warm
Sunday went by quickly with some good traffic with the warm weather. A woman who is quite interested in the new starter home came in to discuss building process. She needs a home quickly and we might fill the bill.
I spent a good deal of my time thinking about the evening event; my playing Santa Claus for Chris and his community league. It was a fabulous experience. The look on the faces of the children when Santa came in, was priceless. Their actions and responses made the experience more fulfilling for me than I would have thought. I came off the evening on a great high. It was great to take part in the evening and had everyone said that I seemed to be a natural at how I handled things. I feel privileged that Chris and Karen would invite me to do such a thing. Another fear is conquered in my life. I might have another calling in the future: “a masked person who does things”.

Saturday, Dec. 14, warm, + 6, sunny, a glorious winter week
The week went by quickly with a great deal of activity on my part.
Theatre on Saturday, Santa on Sunday, squash with Warren on Monday, Christmas Bureau on Tuesday, Rest on Wednesday, Lunch with Mother on Wednesday, Lunch with Cynthia on Thursday, Mens’ group with a new addition -Jim L on Thursday, and morning coffee with Sheila at the Second Cup and laundry on Friday.
Still I was feeling very lonely during the week until I had a good discussion with Warren after the mens‘ group. He talked about what would be wrong with maintaining a friendship with Susan on her terms and not trying to control the situation to my satisfaction. It made sense until I started thinking about the rational and then rejected the concept. I am still trying to sort the whole idea out; maybe I am just tired.
Sheila and I had a meaningful conversation over coffee on Friday morning. She shared some feelings and thoughts with me relating to her time spent in Toronto. It was an intimate conversation on her feelings in respect to a man in her life and how she was treated. She was very comfortable talking about what she had done and how the situation unfolded. She asked my opinion to clear up some confusion that was working in her mind. It brought us a great deal closer.
Dr. Joe sent a new participant, Jim, to the group. He participated at an entry level that was much further along than any of us had started at. He has a concern with his anxiety and panic attacks. His lack of self esteem and personal worth makes him fit into the group. He seemed to become comfortable with what was discussed and is looking forward to coming next week when we have supper at a nearby restaurant.
Everett called to deal quickly with the referral fee that we had discussed about the work project I given him. I will invoice him next year. Perhaps it will help him make some quick decisions in his other projects. Peter still has a back problem that is not getting better, his desire to control Linette continues to frustrate his feelings and aggravate his back.
Warren was called back by Stantec to continue their talks with him about his project.
I am going out to spend the evening with Derek and Viola on the farm.
Wayne Easter, of the NFU days, has been promoted to be Solicitor General of Canada. What a long way he has come from being on the NFU board and working to change the profile of Canada back in the 70’s. Who would have thought? I will have to discuss this with Derek and Viola tonight.
I saw Danielle at the cash counter of the Casino that was holding a fund raiser for the Woman’s Shelter. It was pleasant to see her again, I almost did not recognize her since she changed her appearance. She did her little dance when she saw me (always performing). I said it was nice to see her and she was just polite???.
What else should I expect? That she should ask me into the cash change booth and seduce me- well yes? What is with this death wish??????????????????????

Anyway just some thoughts on a lovely December day. More on Sunday.

Sunday, Dec. 15, Sunny, + 6 another very warm December Day
Drove out to Derek and Viola’s place for the evening. Derek made supper for us (Pheasant that he had shot) while we spent the evening catching up on the near past, kids and such. Had a good sleep and then helped Derek move a filing cabinet into the sunroom at the back of the house. Drove back to work in the morning.
Had some people come in who were interested in building the Pinehurst on a lot down the street. They said they would come in today and leave me a wish list and maybe a deposit to hold the lot.

Sunday, Dec. 22, cold, -18, sunny with ice crystals. Nice pre xmas day
I had breakfast with Fred and Sue at Rosie’s in Sherwood Park; nice to chat with them. Ben, their youngest son, is doing well at the RCMP training in Regina. Fred and Sue seem to be doing well. He is off work till next week. Kelsey and her daughter have moved back into the family home to live for a while.
Cory called last night to say he was well, but working a lot and was tired. He had not received the Christmas package yet but will look for it in the mail.
The men’s group had supper at Brewster’s on Thursday with Jim showing up.
I bought a small scale 4 wheel quad for Hector as a gift relating to his accident. His dislocated shoulder is healing well. He is not in as much pain but still needs someone to get him around.
I played squash with Warren on Saturday. Ron came along since he was in town from Fort Mac. Ron certainly has a great deal of anger and frustration in him. Not a fun person to play squash with. He plays an intimidation game that is not much fun to be part of.
I had a good coffee meeting with Sheila on Friday morning. She wanted to get together before she and her son, Devin, left for California on Sunday. She passed on a small gift for my place. She also invited me to a New Years day lunch with her friends. Some warm feelings are passing between us, although I expect that it is because I am lonely and she is warm. I will have to be careful that this does not go anywhere. We will have to be adult about this issue, whatever that means. She alluded to going skiing in Jan. or maybe I just heard it that way.
Work is good with talks continuing with Iona and Kevin.
Mother was in a good mood when I talked to her on the phone on Thursday. She was going to the awards dinner with Grace for her son’s school football team.
Lesel is in town with Kale, her boyfriend, for a short visit. They are staying at her mother’s place. I doubt that I will see her this time. She will be back in January for Ukrainian Christmas.
This has been a great year even with Susan making the turn sideways.
Personally, things are good although I feel sad. My relationship with my sons is great. They are doing things well and learning.
The next year will bring new challenges for them that they will meet and conquer. Things will occur in my life that I have no knowledge and will please me. Work will be very productive and rewarding. The travel that will occur in the next 12 months will be a great deal of fun. My flying will please and relax me.

Friday, Dec. 27. Warm, +2, sunny
The week off has been quite relaxing.
Called Susan to wish her the best of the season; such an adult thing to do.
Went over to Cheryl’s on Xmas day and chatted with her for the afternoon. Then I stopped by for a drink at Warren’s in the evening. Sally was there for supper playing the little girl role.
Boxing day, I went over to Fred and Sue’s place for a late supper. It was nice to sit around with them and talk about out lives.
I did some shopping on Friday, had an oil change on the car and just kicked around. Talked to the boys over the last few days; they and their women are ok. Cory said that Dana and Stephanie are going to the Caribbean for a week in Jan. Stephanie seems to be treating Dana quite nicely.
Gillian called to say that she was changing the way she interacts with Jason.
I hope that she does.
Mother went to Grace’s for Xmas dinner.

Sunday, Dec. 29. -3, snowing
Winter and all the beauty it offers has arrived. It snowed about 5 inches overnight.
I had a scotch by myself and solved the problems of the world.
Not working today.
I will meet with John at the office on Monday and discuss some business pertaining to a client who wants a new home built.
Louise, Susan’s sister, has a hard time understanding that Susan enjoys being alone on Xmas. Oh well. Mother and I had a discussion today about going for lunch. She is all dined out and will wait till the eighth to have lunch. She has all sorts of stories about what happened over the season.
I will have to arrange to get caught up with my flying on the Piper so I can get in some more flying. It depends on how much time I have in the coming months to fly relative to the demands of the selling. Susan R has expressed an interest in working for me and sitting in the starter home showroom.
I will have to talk to John when the home is ready and see if he is interested in having some other than Irvine work for us.
